    Genre #1, Recipe

-Recipe for a Typical High School Senior Boy-

First grab a big bowl and mix the following ingredients:

    • -2 cups of missing assignments piling up
    • -1 tablespoon of being on your phone in class
    • -1 cup of going out late with friends

After you have mixed those ingredients together, get a smaller bowl and add the following ingredients to it:

    • -3 teaspoons of experimental fashion trends
    • -1 tablespoon of friend group drama
    •
    • Once you have done all of this, add the smaller bowls contents into the bigger bowl.
    • Let this mixture rest for around 24 hours, and you will have made your very own lazy, slacking, mischievous, high school senior boy.
    • Enjoy this student not taking care of his responsibilities and not caring about much in general.

      -Graduation Speech

As I stand before you all today, I look upon the past few years we all spent together with great fondness, along with many regrets. We had fun slacking off in class while we talk about God knows what at our tables and hanging out at lunch, but it is now time for all of us to take a crucial step in our lives. I personally struggled staying focused during my high school experience, this was for many different reasons, but less I will move forward at full speed and not let something like that bring me down. I hope all of you will do the same. I would like to thank all the teachers and faculty at Frank McCourt High School for putting up with our mischievous behavior and bad decisions. It is all thanks to you that we all stand here today ready to graduate, diploma in hand. As you all know and as our teachers have promptly informed us, college is not going to be as easy as high school. This means that in order for all of us to successfully get a college degree, we need to put our best foot forward and be the honorable students we all wish to be. College can be the place where you restart, it’s a fresh, clean slate for you to get started on. So, shape your future however you see fit because it is within your power to do so.

      – The End of Frank McCourt

I remember it like it was just a few days ago, sitting in my robotics class nearing the end of my senior year at Frank McCourt High School, and all I could think about was getting out of that place and moving on to bigger and better things. Little did I know that what I should have been doing was enjoying my time there while I still had it, because I’m not going to have that much free time and those little worries for a long time. I hoped going into college that I would stay on top of all my work and classes, and for the most part that has held true. I guess I am writing this as a way of expressing regret, but I am also writing it to express gratitude for what I had, so that I may not take any future situations for granted and end up like I am now. I regret not seizing the moment I was living in at the time, and instead keeping my head in the clouds thinking about what I’ll do after this is all done. As it got closer to the end of the school year, the quality of my work became worse and worse, until I either barely completed them or just didn’t submit all together. I am glad I can look back on this with the correct mindset and lens, so that I can use what I have learned to make the correct discissions in the future.

      CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF:

      Tyler Anthony Stearns

Attendee of Frank McCourt High School

      2020-2024

At the ceremony, we will celebrate all there was the love about Tyler during his time at FMHS. From his layed-back persona and lack of urgency when it came to homework, to his carefree attitude in class when he should have been paying attention and making more of an effort. I would say he will be missed, but he will not be missed. R.I.P

The funeral will be held at Frank McCourt High School in the auditorium. Be sure to bring your laziness and procrastination along with you.

      Genre #5, Birth Certificate

      Birth Certificate

      This is to certify that:

      Tyler Anthony Stearns,

Weighing: 135 lbs. Was born on the 28th of August to Lisa and Matthew Stearns

In the year 2024, as a young and unknowing student attending City College of New York.

We sincerely congratulate the Stearns family on raising another child through their teenage years. We cannot fathom the amount of rowdy teenage behavior that they must have gone through to get their son to this point. Let us not mourn the loss of the childish, irresponsible half of this boy, but let us celebrate the birth of this new version of himself with infinite potential in this world.

      Genre #6, Poem

      Just another high school day,

Sitting, talking, so much to say,

Little did I know that once it’s all done,

I would have no time to chat and play.

The change came fast, looked so far away,

It almost feels like I caught a stray,

Dove into college not knowing what’s to come,

A beam of light, a blinding ray.

My days feel long and windy like a maze,

Enough to put me in a daze,

What happened to all the innocence and fun,

I guess it’s just another college day.

      Genre #7, How-To Guide

How to Become a Functioning College Student

Step #1: Stop waking up past noon every day and do something with your mornings. -Note: This step will require going to bed at a reasonable time, which may be difficult for most incoming college students who enjoy staying up late most nights.

Step #2: Break your old high school habits and start putting real effort into your assignments again. You are now a full-time student and paying good money for these classes you are taking, so don’t just complete assignments for the sake of completing them, do them in search of growth in your abilities and knowledge that you didn’t have before.

Step #3: Instead of sitting in class distracted on your phone, put in the effort to pay attention the whole time and soak up all the information you can from your professors. Just to restate it you are paying for these classes, so the least you can do is pay attention to them.

      • Once you have completed all these steps, then and only then will you be officially allowed to be called a functional college student. I hope that you will use this to become a more effective and efficient student in the future.

      Genre #9, Interview

-This is an Interview between the present me (Right), and high schooler me (Left).

      > Hello future me, it is an honor to have the chance to meet my older self and sit down to ask a few questions. I have a total of 2 questions to ask you since our meeting is so brief, and I hope you’ll answer with 100% honesty. I’ll start off with the first question: In what ways have you grown since you left high school to embark on your college career?

Hello, it’s great to see you again. OfCourse I’ll be truthful with my answers, I find it interesting how I know everything about you while you know little about me and what I have been up to. To answer your first question, I have grown in many ways, but I still have a long way to go to before I become the man I want to become. I have grown wiser and more responsible as I have gone through my time at college. But still sometimes I find myself reverting to my old highschooler ways of procrastinating assignments and whatnot. <

      > I see, I can’t wait to experience that growth for myself. I understand what you mean when you say you still have a ways to go, I find myself feeling that sometimes. Time for the second question of the interview, what mistakes did you make in high school that you wish you could go back and fix?

That’s a good question, one that I have had a lot of time to think about and come up with answers to. My biggest regret from high school was not having the determination and work ethic to achieve something greater. Even then I was still treating school like it was something I had to get through that was an everyday annoyance, when I should have been setting goals for myself concerning my future and making strides towards them. <

      > I can see how that is something that can feel very regrettable, and I can notice that in myself as I go from one day to the next not really accomplishing anything besides mediocre effort on homework assignments. Well, that’s all the time we have for this interaction, it was so amazing to be able to speak with you and get your insight on the time I am currently living through.

I’m glad I can help guide you in the right direction and help fix the mistakes I made in the past, it was great speaking with you, goodbye. <

      Genre #10, Letter

Dear future me, this is no longer the young, unknowing, and frankly irresponsible high schooler who was once writing letters to his future self, this is that future self, writing to his future self. But unlike that highschooler I now have something that takes time to achieve, a renewed set of vows and goals to live by, something that highschooler me did not come close to having. In this letter I will list those vows and goals out to my future self who has a degree and has graduated college. To get us started, my first vow is to allow work to become a part of my life and stop resisting it. I always seem to find myself dreading having to do work, while instead I should just be doing it with no second questions. My second vow for the future is to always keep all my responsibilities in check, and that may sound like a big undertaking, but it really shouldn’t be. My third and final vow to my future self, is to always keep moving forward, because there is no time in this life to stop and take breaks, we must seize every opportunity we can to make the most of this opportunity. I guess there is nothing to say besides I’ll see you there. – Freshman Tyler
